Gigi Alford is head of Sport and Human Rights for UNI Global Union’s World Players Association, based in Nyon, Switzerland. She also coordinates the Sport & Rights Alliance, a global coalition of leading NGOs and trade unions working to embed human rights in sport. She is a member of the interim Governance Committee of the Centre for Sport and Human Rights. Previously, Ms. Alford served as Special Advisor for Internet Freedom and Business and Human Rights in the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor, where in October 2016 she facilitated the first Sporting Chance Forum convening of the Mega-Sporting Events Platform for Human Rights, the precursor to the Centre. She also worked as a sports journalist at the San Francisco Chronicle and San Diego Union-Tribune.
