Alex Warofka is Human Rights Manager and Emerging Risks Lead at Meta. Alex is a business and human rights professional with extensive expertise conducting human rights due diligence and mitigating human rights risks in the technology sector. His work focuses on addressing the role of social media in offline conflict and atrocity crimes, assessing human rights impacts of novel products and technologies at scale, and navigating rising digital authoritarianism. Alex has led pioneering work in the sector, including Meta's publication of a human rights impact assessment (HRIA) on end-to-end encryption and disclosure in full of an HRIA on Facebook's role in Myanmar, an industry-first. He has played a core role in Meta's work to understand and address connections between on-platform content and offline conflict, including in Myanmar, Ethiopia, India, and Ukraine. Alex has been integral in shaping Meta's approach to transparency reporting and its policies for responding to government requests while respecting international human rights standards. He represents Meta on the board of the Global Network Initiative. Alex has a technical background in data science and econometrics and extensive international experience.
